The Cooler Master 690 II Basic definitely does its predecessor justice.  With clean, understated lines, excellent functionality, and solid build quality this case definitely carries on the high reputation of the 690 line.  Cable management is a breeze, and it can make just about anyone look like a building pro. Sure, the Basic is, well, basic, but it does everything you want a case to do with no fuss and no problems.  Then again, for some the “basic” part may be a downfall as well.  There is no in-case support for items like SSDs which is quickly becoming a staple in even budget cases, and only two included fans means spending more if you need the added cooling.

With only a $20 price difference between the Basic and the Advance, I would definitely spend the extra twenty and get the Advance that includes quite a few extras that make the few extra dollars worth it.  Others would argue that you can say that with any jump in price, but if you want the really attractive look of the 690 II and more flexibility for the future of your build the Advance would be the way to go.  That being said, if your budget is strict, there are few cases in the $70 price range that match the quality of the Cooler Master 690 II Basic.  It’s definitely one to look at if you want an attractive, well built case that does the job.

As fore mentioned, I thought that the CM 690 II basic case was extremely easy to work with as it was surprisingly spacious for a mid tower. Another reason that made the build effortless was the superior tool-less design, with the 3.5” and 5.25” drive bays as well as the large number of included thumb screws. The versatility of this 690 Basic is also definitely present, allowing you to customize the case by adding fans to almost any position in the case.
