In fact Cooler Master has taken a simpler heatsink and made it unique with the offset dual fan configuration. Looking simply at performance, the numbers do the talking with the smaller heatsink able to keep up with the likes of the Noctua NH-U12P.

Pros
    * Decent performance
    * Competes well at overclocked settings
    * Compact
    * Affordable
    * High quality build

Cons

 * A little noisy

As it is right now, the Hyper N520 is a great budget cooler for an average user looking for something much quieter than their stock fan that is easy to install and performs a fair amount better.  I see this cooler going up against the old standby Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro and the variety of budget 92mm coolers from Xigmatek. One advantage the Hyper N520 has over its competitors is the included LGA 1366 bracket, though this reviewer doubts the Hyper N520 would have much performance gain over Intel's stock LGA 1366 cooler in anything other than the noise department.

…the performance was top notch for a 92mm heatsink, outperforming bigger heatsinks. The price is also much lower than other heatsinks with similar performance, this is exaturated even more in the case of the TRUE that requires you also must by fans…If you are trying to get the best cooling performance per dollar and are willing to work a little harder to get that performance the Hyper N520 is perfect for you…I think its a fair trade.

The Cooler Master Hyper N520 can only be described as an exceptional budget cooler. Its unique offset dual fan design seems to have paid off. It would be a great heatsink for a mild to moderate overclock. Once you start to clock the processor to the extreme levels, the fans get pretty loud.

The Cooler Master Hyper N520 retails for about $49.99. At that price it is a great budget friendly Socket-1366 / Core i7 cooler.

Sound level was pleasantly minimal.  With our case buttoned up, the cooler's twin 92mm fans easily faded into the background noise of a running machine.  From the pictures of the new Cooler Master heatsink, the build quality is obviously high which is a comforting thing regardless of price point.  That brings us to value.  Pricing out with a street price of $40, the Cooler Master Hyper N520 puts a lot on the table for an end user to consider.  For that price the Hyper N520 represents a solid choice for your next build offering quiet performance with a futuristic all business look.  The Cooler Master Hyper N520 is a product we can heartily recommend.  Here's a quick like to it at Sundial Micro for $40.

Overall this Cooler Master Hyper N520 is a top notch product. It doesn't look bad, isn't too noisy, and most importantly it gets the job done cooling the CPU. Cooler Master usually puts out solid products and the Hyper N520 is no different. And to top it off, including brackets for the new LGA1366 sockets will allow enthusiasts to use this on their new Core i7 setups, whether they have already upgraded or if they are planning an upgrade in the future. The Hyper N520 is currently selling in the $50 range making it a reasonable upgrade that won't break the bank.

Coolermaster considered the N520 to be their budget cooler. At $49 is not cheap from some people's point-of-view. But if you are a gamer, overclocker or an enthusiast you will know that $49 is not a lot of money when it comes to cooling an overclocked processor like ours. And $49 is not a lot of money when you can compete with some of the best coolers on the market which can cost upwards of $60 without fans. I would be happy to fork out this price for this cooler.

Quality is another great feature of the N520 but a even more attractive feature is it compatible. The N520 can be placed on any current product motherboard, from the newest socket 1366 Intel to the latest AM3 socket AMD.

Those who have few place shall be able to turn without worries to Hyper N520, especially that price is rather interesting. At the level of performances, it manages to cool down Quad Core correctly, even in 5 volts, but it really shows its potential from 9 volts. But at this instant there, it is less silent, to fall in the category of the audible ventirads (without being therefore a turbine), while it will remain silent in 5 and 7 volts. On the contrary, the mode 12 volts is loud and especially high-pitched.

The N520 is a tower model. With a copper base it uses 5 heatpipes to trtansport the heat to the alunimiun heatsink. On both sides there are is a 80mm fan. The N520 is smaller than the real high-end coolers, like the Z600 and Scythe Mugen. This is an advantage if you use a smaller chassis for core i7. The results are also very good: with a similation of 120 watt the N520 keeps temperatures of 47,9 degrees at high speed and 54,7 degress at low speed. This is not as good as the high end coolers but definitely a lot better than other coolers in the same range and the boxed coolers from Intel. Also the sounds level is very comfortable.

The Hyper N520 is not a flashy and in your face heatsink, but rather a workhorse that gets the job done.

Cooler Master has another solid product in the Hyper N520 and you owe it your consideration if you're in the market for a new heatsink for your CPU.

Next to that it looks good and it performs pretty good as well. And sure, once mounted in your PC and you leave the installation behind you, there is very little to dislike about this product. You get really good cooling performance at a decent priced product. As such we would surely recommend it.

Overall working with the Cooler Master Hyper N520 was very pleasing. Generally when it comes to a "budget" minded product, one starts thinking that corners are cut here and there to save $ on the production of the product. For a whopping $34.99 USD price, the Cooler Master Hyper N520 doesn't disappoint. The Hyper N520 gave us an average 20C lower load temp across the board when compared to the stock Intel cooler. The installation process is simple (does require the board to be removed unless you have an access hole on your motherboard tray) and relatively quick to do. There didn't appear to be any clearance issues on the EVGA X58 motherboard, and in the Cosmos-S chassis. Noise levels where well in the acceptable range.

How to sum up this cooler? I will start with the looks, personally I love this coolers conservative aesthetics and think its just as striking as many of the more elaborate designs on the market today. Next would have to be the performance which is right on par with what can be expected from a cooler of this size and cost. Lastly, the installation, although it was a motherboard removal job it wasn’t too bad really as the cooler has quite a uniform shape its not too fiddly.

Bottom line: If its silence you want, go back to the drawing board, if you want good performance from a trusted name at a great price then this is a brilliant choice.
