It has been jokingly said that her name Cooler Master Case Master can change for better. The cabinets of this manufacturer in the Netherlands and other countries remain popular subject. Still rolls this year a remarkable winner in the demand for the best closet. Cooler Master this year where it has the necessary new models released, wins it with the same housing as previous years, the CM 690. We can find there is in: this case is solid, beautiful and not expensive.

Overall, the Cooler Master CM 690 has some nifty features that benefit enthusiasts looking to fit a whole battalion of cooling fans into a chassis. Cable management looks promising while the tool-free mechanisms are always welcome. It doesn't hurt too that the meshed design works from an aesthetic point of view, especially clad in black. However, we aren't too sure about the dust factor after a few months of usage. As this chassis has just been released by Cooler Master, we are unable to get a price quote for it currently. We are betting on a reasonable price that will reflect its quality and features but this chassis is definitely not for the budget crowd.

Admittedly the RC-690 does have a couple of flaws in it's design, with things such as the certain power supplies not fitting correctly if a fan is placed in bottom mounting bracket. But putting these small problems aside I think Cooler Master has done a bang-up-job of creating a mid-priced enclosure that offers a number of features some of which are not even found on other computers such as the rows of screws on each side of the drive rack.
It's features like these that continue to make Cooler Master the company to beat when it comes to computer enclosures!

If this product was carried a price-tag of $150/€150 our conclusion would have been quite straight forward, the CM 690 is a feature rich enclosure which comes with handy tool less features, three 120mm fans which keep all components cool, plus the possibility to add another 5 fans to provide for excellent thermal management, a lot of expandability options. Drawbacks are the steel construction which makes this case heavy to carry around, the side panels can be hard to install and remove. Overall a good case in a market with plenty of competition.

This is one nice mid-tower. While the case has a ton going for it, it could be a little better. There is no removable motherboard tray and the case is made of heavy steel. Those are very small complaints when you look at the case as a whole. A big plus for this case is it will fit 2 8800GTX's in SLI. In the picture above, I have an 8800GTS installed and you can see all of the extra room available. This case is also designed for nice airflow while keeping the noise down. The HDD trays have rubber grommets to eliminate noise causing vibration and the power supply opening is lined with a rubber gasket to do the same. The large 120mm fans will move more air at less RPMs then a 80mm fan. This will also cut your noise level down. Even the large rubber feet will help keep the noise level down. Overall this is a very nice case loaded with features that you'd find on much more expensive cases. Club Overclocker Recommended!

CoolerMaster has always been one of the leaders in case design and each year they seem to push themselves to come up with even better designs than before. The CM690 is a perfect example of this. The elegant lines and clean design are very pleasing to the eye and black mesh does an excellent job of enhancing the look and satisfying a functional purpose of free airflow. External connectivity is handled by the top mounted ports and cover all of the major options including USB, FireWire, eSATA, and the standard headphone and microphone jacks.

Cooler Master has done it again. Not only have they impressed with their new high-end Cosmos, but also with the mainstream RC-690. The case has a lot of very useful features and additions which are usually not found in cases which cost less than 100 US Dollars or more. The only downside is the optical drive installation, which is not completely screwless. The engineering within the case is ingenious for such a price range, as simple additions like the clips to route cables or screws placed inside the case, are very useful features. You even have the choice to get the RC-690 with a side window for an additional 5 €, to show off that clean cable management and your hardware at a LAN party.

Sometimes CoolerMaster has a hit, and sometimes they have a miss, like any company. The CM690 however is most definitely a hit. They managed to somehow fit everything from a full sized tower into a mid, and not sacrifice anything.

As I stated early on, the CM690 from Cooler Master is a pleasant mixture of solid features and new gadgets. With the entire front and top panels being used as airflow, cooling is rock solid. While our test box had only three fans installed, there are mounts for four additional 120mm fans so you can see that it will be more than up to the task of cooling even the most hardcore enthusiast rigs. Add to this the rubber grommet protected water ports and we have everything we need for high-end cooling...

Overall Cooler Master's CM690 is an excellent case. It is feature rich and it delivers. There are some cons with this case but for the most part they are far outweighed by the pros.

The Cooler Master CM 690 is a classic design. It's understated yet exceptionally well thought out.
From the screws stored inside the chassis, to the flexible layout for internal cooling fans and on to its water-cooling provisions, the 690 manages to tick a large number of the important boxes and then some more besides...

That table brings our testing section a close and now all that is left is for me to summarise our findings, wrapping it all up nicely before the folks at Cooler Master come and demand that I return to them the rather nice CM 690 chassis. My time with it has been short, but memorable.
The Cooler Master CM 690 is a nice looking case, there’s no doubt in my mind about that, and the fact that its available for around fifty quid in the UK only sweetens the deal. On top of that, the cooling performance is pretty admirable.

It doesn’t take much investigation to realize that the Centurion 590 is a trimmed down version of the CM690. Both are amazing cases. If you are after a little more style the CM690 is an easy choice however if you want to save a few bux the Centurion 590 with similar cooling schemes and less body work might be the better one.
