CoolerMaster’s ATCS 840 is an amazing case. I would highly recommend this case as long as you have the floor/desk space for it. Once all the internals are inside you wont enjoy toting it around as it is quite literally an armful (or in my case a giant bear hug). The spacious interior allows for ample room for you to work inside and have the new latest and greatest pieces of hardware.

Back in 2001, when the ATCS series made big waves and Cooler Master was known for uncompromsing quality and innovation with the entire series. Nowadays with the changed economic structure and crowded case market, the ATCS 840 does still hold true to those values. While we no longer see some crazy and "out of this world" innovation in the chassis, Cooler Master has taken all the good, functional and working features and slapped it into the ATCS 840, along with a few smaller additions.

Coolermaster 840 ATCS will set you back about $250 or so but I will also begin with telling you that it is well worth it. It is not often that you will find a case that easily fit as many standards as the 840. Size is one of the 840 biggest assets. There aren't many case that have enough room to house a triple 120mm water-cooling rads without having to mod one inch of the case. Another smaller 120mm rad can also be mounting on the bottom of the case and places for other water-cooling components should have no issues with finding their best fit. And no matter what type of PC you are building: a gaming rig, a file server or just a very nice box the 840 has room for it all.

This is the case that will find a home in my office, I tend to be very picky about the type of case I like and this happens to be in my mind the perfect case whether I leave it with fan and fin cooling or switch it over to a true water cooling case. It has everything ready to accept a a double 120 reservoir at the top of the case so converting will be a piece of cake. If you can afford this case I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to buy a nearly perfect case. I use nearly since we all know that no case can be perfect or perhaps it can be.

Once again the ATCS 840 is great piece of kit which is as well refined as it is multi-talented. For the majority of people reading this review you honestly can’t go wrong with selecting this case....assuming you can afford it that is. For all these reasons and the rest that we have mentioned throughout this review we are proud to award this case the DAM GOOD award. Cooler Master did it with the HAF 932 case I reviewed last year and has done it again. For those wanting the ultimate in cooling solutions this case has no less than 7 fan spots with three of them being of the 230mm variety. The removable motherboard tray allows the end-user to install everything outside of the case and test it before installing it. Cooler Master knows its stuff when it comes to cases and this one fits the bill.

ATCS 840 extends this legacy with the addition of today's latest advancement in ergonomics and system cooling. With a timeless design and unmatched attention to detail, the ATCS 840 is set to stir interest once again.
The RC-840 is an extremely well-constructed enclosure with a solid chassis capable of sustaining the worst accidents without warping the chassis. While the panels are not 6mm alloy and seams were not welded, the ATCS survives the most harsh handling.
One particular area of interest that really impressed be was product functionality. I'm completely sold on the motherboard tray cut-out which allows me to remove the backplate of a CPU cooler without having the remove the entire system. Even without this feature, the sliding motherboard tray would make for a decent second-favorite. Using 230mm cooling fans in three different locations of the RC-840 is a guaranteed way of ensuring Advanced Thermal Cooling, but the negative inner-case pressure might add-up to be too much for some exhausting video cards (such as high-end NVIDIA and ATI products). Tool-less drive bay trays and clips make installation a snap, and the removable fan filters should keep the innards nice and shiny.
- Motherboard tray cut-out for CPU cooler backplate removal - Constructed with 100% aluminum alloy - Available in elegant black and refined silver finishes - Convenient top-mounted flip-up I/O panel with audio input and eSATA - Low- or high-mount PSU location thermal isolation - Anti-vibration silicon-rubber pads for all drives - Full tower design offers six 5.25" and six 3.5" bays - Excellent cooling fan placement for optimal airflow channel - Liquid-cooling compatible rear ports or top mounted radiator - Direct cooling drive cage design - Tool-less side panels, bezel, and drive bays - Incredible attention to detail - Fan and vent openings have cleanable lint filters
Cons:
- Heavy-weight product despite all-aluminum construction - Negative inner-case pressure may weaken video card exhausting - No sound dampening material - Very expensive premium product - May be too tall for any location other than floor

Presentation: 8.50 Appearance: 9.50 Construction: 9.50 Functionality: 9.75 Value: 7.75 Final Score: 9.0 out of 10.

The biggest complaints that I had with this chassis was the flimsy feel of the side panels ant that the front I/O connectors pop up door was a little hard to open up. I also would have liked to have seen a side panal fan near the video cards to help aide in cooling them a bit better. The HDD holders could use a better design, because for those unaware of how they work, one could easily snap one in half.
The Cooler Master ATCS 840 is a well built chassis. It not only allowed me to use a large CPU cooler, it had the room for me to use a large video card without having any interference with the HDD bays and the CD/DVD drives. It also kept my components cool during my testing. My temperatures only increased by a mere 2-3 degrees C from having an Open Bench Test case. None of the fans were loud enough for me to hear them with this chassis sitting just about a foot away from me. Unfortunatetly, I was unable to use the VGA duct for this chassis becaase of the limited space that I have available to me and I couldn't have the chassis sticking out anymore then what it was.
The ATCS 840 chassis, is simply put, astonishing. This chassis is large enough to handle various types of large motherboards, and video cards, and it can handle large CPU coolers and even the biggest of water cooling setups. And to top it off, this chassis does it with style. Having a price point of around 250 U.S. dollars makes this a fair price to pay for a chassis that has a multitude of abilities.

After reading this article, you'll no doubt already understood that the conclusion of this test will be positive. Indeed the Coolermaster ATCS 840 is simply a pure success. Of course, it is not perfect and we regret to have such uses screwdriver in certain situations (for PCI or to remove the cradle of the motherboard), or the cradle which could drag a little better . The most niggling say may be as we are obliged to remove the two sides of the casing to install a hard drive. Sure, we have the three defects, but three minor defects compared to the level of excellence of this tower. The finish is exemplary whatever angle you look at the ATCS 840, space is no shortage, installing a motherboard is a breeze, changing ventirad even when he screwed a plate on the back the motherboard is done without dismantling the latter, hard drives and 5.25 inch units screwless move through the system simple and effective cable management is no exception and more from the fan located just aft of the motherboard, all dust filters are dismantled in seconds. Coolermaster provided extra equipment needed to install a liquid cooling system and a fan duct to better evacuate the hot air generated by the graphics cards. In short, the list of good points is long and despite the three small defects reported earlier, the real problem of the ATCS 840 will be much the price that runs around 240 €. Although it's expensive, but the ATCS 840 is a housing high-end, and this is not a purchase in the short term. It is a real investment because given the strength and quality manufacturing of the equipment, you can easily absorb over many years.
That's words, long a box I had not done such a good impression. The ATCS 840, it's big, beautiful, solid and silent, so if the amount is too high for you, dark!

Upon first seeing the Coolermaster ATCS 840 in our offices, expectations have been high, the design and attention to detail has apparently been a prime consideration of the designers and engineering process. Internally we are pleased to report that the product is just as impressive and the performance testing verifies the cooling prowess.
Build quality is top notch, all the screw holes line up perfectly and nothing needs forcing into position. Additionally, vibrations are down to a minimum with almost everything fitting tightly and securely. The edges of the side panel do feel quite loose but they don’t appear to cause any vibration problems with loud audio bass.
The ATCS 840 is very silent in operation, this is due to the use of three 230mm fans with one spinning at a mere 1,700 rpm. Even in a silent environment the ATCS is barely noticeable and will keep distractions to a minimum.
The chassis also exhibits some impressive thermal dynamics, with plenty of air moving through the system despite the large volume area. The 230mm intake fan is a great performer, even at a low 1,700 RPM and keeps components such as the hard drive and graphics card on the cooler end of the scale. Although the case would ultimately perform better with the top intake fans closer to the components and a smaller volume area, Coolermaster have had to sacrifice this potential performance increase to support certain functions and features such as high end water-cooling setups.

The Cooler Master ATCS 840 Case is one of the very best full-tower cases on the market. It has all the right ingredients; excellent air circulation provided by three 230mm fans and one 120mm fans (more optional fans can be added), dust filters on all intake fans, plenty of drive bays, looks great, superb design, quality build and so much more. Perfection isn't part of our world and Coolermaster's enclosure is no exception to this rule, although it does come pretty close. The fans were quiet, almost silent actually. However, it would be nice to have the option to crank them up when needed because even though they can easily be controlled, and by controlled I mean slowed down, using the standard three pin connector instead of the Molex, they already spin at a mere 700 RPM. Also, the air duct didn't, as expected, have much of an effect, if at all, on the video card temperatures. Its usefulness could be extended by adding a hole on top letting us route USB, audio and Ethernet cables through it, along with the video cable. That would make the desk's back area less of a cable mess. Back on Earth, the case was still able to keep temperatures well under control and lower than Antec's mid tower. So, except for ATI's 4850, although this one is already a lost cause with only the stock cooler, it performed very well in my testing.
Overall, Coolermaster's ATCS 840 is a great, large and high quality enclosure. It's truly up there along with the other high end cases on the market. With just a few minor adjustments, the company could have an even shinier gem under its wings. It's not out on the retail market yet, but availability should come within the end of this month. Until then, hold your breath and make some space for this classy monster.

Cooler Master is highly regarded among computer enthusiasts and gamers for building quality products and with the ATCS 840 this still holds true. The ATCS 840 is an extremely large case that can accommodate dual ATX power supplies, an EATX motherboard, six disk drives, and six external 5.25" drives. You could also run multiple GPUs in this system too quite well on top of that.
With this case being so large and heavy though, this is not an ideal candidate to be transporting to LAN parties or gaming events and you may even have problems fitting this case underneath your desk. Aside from the space requirements, the case is very nice and is well designed. The only weak area of this case we feel is the plastic HDD holders, which are a bit flimsy, but we hadn't experienced any real problems with them.

The ATCS 840 is an amazing enclosure, it has the privilege of being the only case in two years to supplant my Sliver Stone TJ09. The ATCS 840 is one very high quality premium case with an elegant and stylish design that manages to continue the legacy of the old ATCS case with great success. Cooler Master designed the ATCS 840 with the same idea in mind like they did with the HAF 932 case. With three 230mm fans and a 120mm fan pre installed the case may not have the same airflow as the one found in the HAF 932, still it is clearly one of the best cases in that department. The consideration of water cooling solutions owners will also go far for many people. The removable motherboard tray is also a very rare and much valuable addition for the ATCS 840 and that along with all the well placed holes for routing cables and the hole beneath the CPU that allows users to swap Cooler backplates is something that will satisfy every enthusiast out there.
Although the ATCS 840 is not perfect, still it comes extremely close to being everyone’s dream case. Not only is it one of the best looking cases i have ever seen, but it's also one of the best cases when it comes to airflow, available space and ergonomics. The ATCS 840 retails for about 250$ in the USA and about 220Euros in the EU and although the somewhat big price tag and the fact that the plain brown card board packaging is certain that it won't attract many buyers the ATCS 840 is a case that it is certainly worth the extra buck invested.

Aesthetically it's gorgeous, with smooth lines and an understated style we love, and it's also stunningly quiet thanks to the use of large low RPM 230mm cooling fans. The switch from 120mm to larger fan sizes now seems as inevitable as the move from 80mm to 120mm was, and we fully expect to see more and more cases fitted with 200mm+ fans in 2009.
The ATCS 840 has also been put together phenomenally well, with excellent build quality and dozens of tiny thoughtful touches that help justify its admittedly very steep price tag.

The size of this case makes it a perfect candidate for a water cooling setup. Since CoolerMaster included the brackets to mount a radiator by replacing one of the 230mm fans at the top, that makes it all the easier to get into water cooling. Again if you have the room to plant this beast in your office you won't be dissapointed. My current test set up I don't feel would push the thermal limits of the case, which means that I can also throw quite a bit more hardware in it. The included filters are great. As I said before I live in Oregon where the dust bunnies reporduce faster than jack rabbits and after 30 days of use, the filters needed to be cleaned but the interor of the case was pretty much spotless.

With their ATCS 840, Cooler Master has given enthusiasts an option to have a truly huge chassis with a measure of style thrown in too. Though the case is expensive, it is to be expected from nearly thirty pounds of exquisitely machined aluminum; the sheer number of features - useful features - and the smoothness of operation overall makes this case a true winner. Though using the motherboard tray creates more hassles than it does bolster solutions when a system is fully installed, it's still a nice thing to see. After all, a full sized heatsink can be installed right before the system is build; and that's just one of the nice things about this case. Provided you have the room for it, and the desire for one of the best air cooled cases on the market, then the ATCS 840 is a hard case to pass up. What's even more impressive to it, though, is how this case manages to move more air than the previous champion - the HAF932, all while appealing to a more global audience than the formerly hard designs. I'm going to go and call this one a major winner. Go out and grab this if you're looking for a new case!
